August is Auto-inflammatory Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about conditions that cause the immune system to trigger inflammation without the usual infection or injury.
Autoinflammatory diseases can cause symptoms such as:
Recurrent fevers
Joint or muscle pain
Skin rashes
Abdominal pain
Fatigue
Swelling and inflammation
Because these symptoms can overlap with many other conditions, autoinflammatory diseases can sometimes be difficult to recognize and diagnose.
Why Awareness Matters
Recognizing recurring or unexplained symptoms is an important first step. Keeping track of symptoms and discussing patterns with a healthcare professional can help guide appropriate evaluation and care. This month, we've prioritized spreading awareness and encouraging patients and families to ask questions, recognize patterns, and seek answers.
Greater awareness can lead to earlier recognition, better understanding, and improved support for those living with autoinflammatory conditions.
